Cold Justice
Book 2: No Justice Series
Nothing much happens in the snow-covered town of Lacy, Colorado. But for Sheriff Clare Decker, that’s all going to change.
It hasn’t even gone eight in the morning, I have had no coffee, and already my day has gone to hell. Apparently, three workers from the local logging company assaulted Molly Malone at McKenzies Bar last night.
Alfred Beckett, an old recluse who lives up on Dawson’s Ridge overlooking the township, claims he saw the ghost again last night. Third time this week, but who’s counting? Saw it wandering downtown in the early hours of the morning he claims. Alf reckoned it must have been a ghost because it just appeared out of nowhere, then vanished.
Bob Marshall called, said his dog’s gone missing. Put him out last night after dinner to do his business and the dog didn’t return. That’s two dogs missing in one night. Could be a mountain lion, I suppose.
Then there’s Emily Bell, the local elementary schoolteacher. She thinks someone is watching her at night from the woods behind her house.
And now, there’s reports of a partially buried body in the snow up in the foothills.
“Ghosts, cougars, night prowlers, and now a possible body in the snow,” I say to myself, as I step out onto the porch, check my gun in its holster, and look up at the sky. A light smatter of snowflakes hits my face. As if I don’t already have enough to deal with today, the weather report says there’s a doozey of a snowstorm moving in.
Being a female sheriff in the one-sheriff town of Lacy, Colorado, I was thinking the first day of winter was going to be uneventful. Lucky me.
Cold Justice is a chilling standalone adult thriller that will keep you up at night.
